Ina Schabert is Professor Emerita of English Literature at the University of Munich. She is editor of the Shakespeare Handbuch (1972; 5th ed. 2009, reprint 2018). From 2000 to 2006 she also edited the Shakespeare Jahrbuch. She was involved in introducing feminist studies into German Anglistik. From 1990 to 2000 she was engaged in the founding and organizing of a graduate school for gender studies in Munich (‘Geschlechterdifferenz & Literatur’). She published a literary history that experiments with gender as a category of literary historiography: Englische Literaturgeschichte aus der Sicht der Geschlechterforschung (2 vols., 1997 and 2006). Her efforts to promote collaborative research were awarded with the Bundesverdienstkreuz and the Bavarian Order of Merit. Recently she has become interested in French women authors of the 17th and 18th century; a collection of her essays on English and French female writing in the Enlightenment is scheduled for publication in December 2020.
